Alex set the alarm and got up early. She made breakfast for the kids and got them off to the bus stop. They were getting excited that school would be out for the summer in just 2 more weeks. Alex planned to pour herself into reviewing the contracts and numbers for the Delphi deal before going to the hospital.
Alex still hadnât begun a serious dialog with Calin about everything that would change and what all this would mean. Sheâd let the matter lay purposely so Calin could have time to adjust and regain her strength. As important as this discussion was, it was equally or more important to Alex that Calin be emotionally stable after the ordeal sheâd been through.
The week ahead would be a difficult one. Calin was being discharged from the hospital, Ethan was not. The first night after being discharged Calin was obviously out of sorts, she enjoyed dinner with Alex and the kids but was unable to relax in the evening hours. Alex knew it was the guilt of not being close to Ethan.
That night once they were in bed, Alex knew she had to bring it up. The signed contracts needed to be sent back to Delphi in the next few days.
Alex pulled Calin close, âWe need to talk.â
Calin realized Alex needed her. In the past week everything that had happened revolved around Ethan. Alex had taken full responsibility for the kids and everything else, and they really hadnât discussed anything about the movie contract other than the amount of money Alex would make.
âWhat Baby? What do you need?â Calin laughed softly and chided Alex. âDo you wanna make love?â
Alex ran her hand up and down Calinâs side. âItâs not that. I need to talk to you about this contract and what itâs going to mean as far as my commitment to the movie. Iâm gonna have to leave for California in July for the screen write, and after that filming will probably continue for 7 months.â
Calin loved the idea of Alex being successful, she loved the idea of the money and the notoriety, the hard part was Alex actually having to be gone for such a long time.
âAlex, why does it have to be for so long? If you leave in July and this takes seven months, you wonât be back home till January. Think of everything youâll miss. Is there any other way?â
Calin was getting agitated. Alex knew what sheâd miss, and she wasnât thrilled about it, but this was the opportunity of a lifetime, this was financial security for her family.
âIâm concerned about a lot of things, but Calin, I may never get a chance like this again. We could be set for years by me taking this opportunity. Think of everything we can give the kids. By the time all is said and done this is well over a million dollar deal before the first royalty check shows up.â
